即使是内容痛苦的梦，也可以用欲望的满足来解释。这一类梦的解释，肯定会牵扯到很多我们不愿意讲出或者不愿意想到的事情。每个人都有一些隐私，不愿意告诉别人，甚至自己都不愿意承认。但是如果出现在梦里，就绝不仅仅是偶然事件的巧合。梦中唤起的痛苦感情，正是为了阻止我们提及或者讨论那些痛苦的事情。
意识是一种特殊的心理行为，它是感官将其他来源的材料经过一番加工而形成的产品。
人的内心，既求生，也求死。我们既追逐光明，也追逐黑暗。我们既渴望爱，有时候却又近乎自毁地浪掷手中的爱。人的心中好像一直有一片荒芜的夜地，留给那个幽暗又寂寞的自我。
我们整个心理活动似乎都是在下决心去求取欢乐，避免痛苦，而且自动地受唯乐原则的调节。
梦之所以要改装成不愉快的内容，实际上就是由于其中某些内容为第二心理步骤所不准许，而同时这部分恰是第一心理步骤所需要的愿望。
