"Well,hereistheham,andnowyoumustgostraighttoDeadMan'sHall,"saidtherichbrother,throwingthehamtohim.
"Well,IwilldowhatIhavepromised,"saidtheother,andhetookthehamandsetoff.Hewentonandonforthelivelongday,andatnightfallhecametoaplacewheretherewasabrightlight.
"Ihavenodoubtthisistheplace,"thoughtthemanwiththeham.
Anoldmanwithalongwhitebeardwasstandingintheouthouse,choppingYulelogs.
"Good-evening,"saidthemanwiththeham.
"Good-eveningtoyou.Whereareyougoingatthislatehour?"saidtheman.
"IamgoingtoDeadMan'sHall,ifonlyIamontherighttrack,"answeredthepoorman.
"Oh!yes,youarerightenough,foritishere,"saidtheoldman."Whenyougetinsidetheywillallwanttobuyyourham,fortheydon'tgetmuchmeattoeatthere;butyoumustnotsellitunlessyoucangetthehand-millwhichstandsbehindthedoorforit.WhenyoucomeoutagainIwillteachyouhowtostopthehand-mill,whichisusefulforalmosteverything."
